What to expect

This is a community newsletter built by a team of journalists, entrepreneurs, and civil engineers. We believe in fostering niche communities vs. a one-to-many mass media engine. Our goal is to deliver carefully curated content and meaningful connections for you as civil and architectural engineers to address the unique challenges and opportunities in your role.

Each week we’ll provide original and curated takes on relevant industry news as well as cast national and international headlines through the lens of civil and architectural engineers. Interviews with community members will provide insight and inspiration to your career and job postings as grist to take the next step.

Civil Engineer Wire is building a community through news and collaboration. True to our entrepreneurial roots, we are guided by your input and hope you’ll send us your unfiltered feedback - tell us what you like, what you don’t, and what else you’d like to see.

Our core values

  1. Readers rule the roost. We delight in your input and feedback with an eye on maximizing your engagement in our content and community as our north star. We don’t operate in a vacuum: new features, segments, content, styles… everything flows through the filter of your feedback. Please speak up.

  2. People matter. Family, friends, and community come first. Hard work is a given. We celebrate breaks and real connections with others in our fields.

  3. Humor is a must. We care deeply about our work and are committed to finding joy in it. We embrace criticism and laugh at ourselves. There is a difference between humor and ridicule, and we honor it.

  4. Integrity and the facts guide us. We rely on facts, data, and multiple points of view. We dive deep to ensure information is accurate and clear. We do what we say we’re going to do, even when no one is looking. We are comfortable saying “I don’t know.” This is a strength, not a sign of weakness. We are transparent, straightforward, and direct with our communication.

  5. Nothing works without hustle and hard work. While humor is important, we take this work seriously. We strive for excellence in all we do. We are driven to win and believe you are too.

  6. Our perspectives need a consistent refresh. We commit to change it up. Routines are important and it’s important to break them.

  7. We are a meritocracy. Ideas can and should come from anywhere. Skills and abilities speak louder than title.

  8. We will never stop learning. We know we don’t know everything, nor do we take things at face value. We are curious and enjoy the pursuit of knowledge.

  9. We are builders. We are creators. We look for opportunities to improve everything we can. We learn through iterative testing and the creative process. To build and create is to understand the interconnectedness of things.
